Baptist Health will bring together leading physicians, researchers and healthcare professionals from South Florida and across the country for the 14th Annual Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Symposium, taking place Nov. 4-6, 2026, at Hilton Miami Dadeland and virtually via Zoom.

The symposium will explore emerging advances in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders, with presentations and multidisciplinary discussions spanning neuro-oncology, stroke, epilepsy, neurocritical care, neurosurgery and spine care, neurovascular disease, movement disorders and neurodegenerative diseases.

New this year, the symposium will integrate the Miami Brain Symposium, a dedicated neuro-oncology program that expands the event to three days. The program will examine advances in molecular classification of central nervous system tumors, precision diagnostics, systemic therapies, radiation treatment and clinical trials for primary and metastatic brain tumors.

Manmeet Ahluwalia, M.D., MBA, FASCO, chief scientific officer, chief of medical oncology, deputy director and Fernandez Family Endowed Chair in Cancer Research at Baptist Health Herbert Wertheim Cancer Institute, will open the Miami Brain Symposium and moderate its first session, Updates in CNS Pathology That Change Treatment Paradigms,”which will address evolving approaches to the classification and treatment of gliomas and meningiomas and will include a keynote lecture on glioblastoma.

“The pace of discovery across neuroscience and neuro-oncology is extraordinary, and meetings like the Miami Neuroscience Symposium give us an important opportunity to bring experts from different disciplines together to share knowledge, challenge existing approaches and discuss how the latest advances can ultimately improve care for our patients,” said Dr. Ahluwalia. “By bringing the Miami Brain Symposium into this year’s program, we are creating even more opportunities for collaboration across specialties as we work to translate scientific discoveries into more precise and effective treatments.”

Michael McDermott, M.D., system chief executive of Baptist Health Brain & Spine Care and chief medical executive and Irma & Kalman Bass Endowed Chair in Clinical Neuroscience at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute, will moderate the symposium’s neurosurgery/spine session.

“Neuroscience is advancing at a remarkable pace, and improving outcomes for patients increasingly depends on collaboration across specialties,” said Dr. McDermott. “This symposium allows physicians and scientists to exchange ideas, examine the latest evidence and learn from one another across disciplines. Ultimately, our goal is to take those advances and translate them into safer, more effective and more personalized care for the patients and families we serve.”

Among the Baptist Health physician experts featured during the symposium are

  • Aviva Abosch, M.D., Ph.D., deputy director of Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute, director of epilepsy surgery, co-director of functional neurosurgery and Esernia Endowed Chair in Surgical Treatment of Adult Epilepsy and Movement Disorders, will present “Deep Brain Stimulation in Parkinson’s Disease.” Dr. Abosch is a nationally recognized surgeon-scientist whose areas of expertise include functional neurosurgery, deep brain stimulation and neuromodulation.
  • Minesh Mehta, M.D., FASTRO, deputy director and chief of radiation oncology at Baptist Health Herbert Wertheim Cancer Institute, will moderate “Leptomeningeal Disease: Four Treatment Strategies, One Difficult Clinical Problem.” The session will examine multiple approaches to treating cancer that has spread to the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, including systemic therapies, radiation and other evolving treatment strategies.
  • Ronald Tolchin, D.O., chief of nonsurgical spine care and rehabilitation at Baptist Health Brain & Spine Care and Kalman Bass Endowed Chair in Pain and Rehabilitative Medicine at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute, will moderate the symposium’s nonsurgical spine session. The session will explore approaches to spine care including peripheral nerve and spinal cord stimulation, regenerative medicine and conservative management of degenerative disc disease.
  • Diego Torres-Russotto, M.D., chair of neurology, chief of movement disorders and Distinguished Endowed Chair in Neurology at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute, will moderate the neurodegenerative disorderssession, which will examine advances in Parkinson’s disease care, including deep brain stimulation, high-intensity focused ultrasound and evolving approaches to diagnosis and treatment.

Additional presentations throughout the symposium will address topics including neurocritical care, seizure management, ischemic stroke, regenerative therapies for spine disorders, surgical spine oncology, cerebral aneurysm treatment, headaches and advances in the diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

The symposium is designed for neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists, medical and radiation oncologists, neuroradiologists, critical care and emergency medicine physicians, rehabilitation specialists, advanced practice providers, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, residents, fellows and other healthcare professionals involved in neuroscience and oncology care.
