Chapters Transcript Video Restoring Mobility and Quality of Life Following Hip Replacement Surgery I become a full time grandmother. I love to be with my grandkids, not just be with them. I go down the slide and I knew I had to keep doing that. One day I'm in the floor playing with her, and when I go to get up, I realize I can't get up. I just couldn't get up. My pain started a very long time ago. I couldn't sleep. I couldn't sleep. Her condition was osteoarthritis. You know, there's many conditions that can lead somebody to need a hip replacement or benefit from a hip replacement. Basically, she lost the surface cartilage within her hip and eventually it develops into bone on bone pain, which affects her quality of life and activities of daily living. I take care of myself and I take care of my home and I want to continue doing that and, and I had fear that I would not be able to do that. Am I not gonna be able to play with my grandkids anymore? Will I not be able to pick them up? When I came in initially and met the doctor, I really liked him. I liked the way he explained everything. So at that point I told him that I want to do what I used to do before. I want to go down the slide. I want to, I want to jump off a plane. It's still on my list. He said, just don't put your feet first. Patients should not live in pain. That's why we have a healthcare system and that's why we have Baptists here to provide care to our community and Baptist Health orthopedic care is designed to manage quality of life problems. That's what we do and Marie is a perfect example of how we can help people regain their quality of life. He's not only an excellent surgeon, but he is what I. I think is more important than a great surgeon is a is a good doctor. I knew that I would be in good hands. He called me the morning of. He says, Are you ready? I said, the better question is, are you ready? Because I'm ready. Maria had a very routine postoperative course. We typically do it under spinal anesthesia, and so people come out of surgery feeling quite well after that. We were able to get her up. Physical therapy in a in a short period of time, sent her home the same day, said she already started jogging about 4 months after surgery. Surprised me a little bit, but we do expect uh high things out of people who who undergo a successful surgery. Now I don't have any limitations. I would definitely recommend Baptist health orthopedic care to anybody. I'm happy. I'm, I'm, I'm complete. I no longer have to say I can't go down the slide. Now I say I'm the first one down the slide. Created by
